Last week, Krafton shocked fans and the gaming community by dismantling the leadership of Subnautica’s studio, Unknown Worlds. They emphasized a need for ‘renewed energy and leadership’ to complete the highly-anticipated Subnautica 2. This move led to widespread disappointment among fans, prompting Unknown Worlds to issue an open letter requesting patience while assuring that essential team members remain intact.
Unknown Worlds co-founder, Charlie Cleveland, has spoken up about the unexpected changes, reassuring the gaming community regarding the upcoming release. In his post titled What is a Wave but a Thousand Drops?, he reminisced about his beginnings in game development, recounting experiences from his youth in Burlington, Vermont, where he and friends experimented with game creation.
Cleveland reflected on his journey, emphasizing how crucial community support was to the studio’s success. Despite facing setbacks, including the mixed reception of previous projects, he expressed confidence in the team behind Subnautica 2, stating it is ready for early access release, despite the surprising circumstances of their dismissal. “This isn’t how we planned our journey, but we are committed to delivering the best experience for our dedicated fans,” he concluded.
