Streamer Pirate Software Targeted by Death Threats After Controversial Remarks

Pirate Software reveals he has been swatted and received numerous death threats amid criticism over his comments on the Stop Killing Games initiative.

Pirate Software’s Death Threats After Streamer Comments

Twitch streamer Pirate Software has revealed that he was recently subjected to swatting and received thousands of death threats. He is known for his indie RPG Heartbound, which has been available in early access since 2018. Over the recent years, he has focused on streaming as well as game development.

Pirate’s Previous Controversy

Earlier this year, he was a member of the hardcore World of Warcraft Classic guild OnlyFangs. However, his time with the guild ended in controversy when multiple members lost their characters following a disastrous run. He was heavily criticized for abandoning his teammates during this difficult moment, leading to his removal from the group.

Comments on Stop Killing Games Initiative

Pirate Software’s stance on the Stop Killing Games initiative has sparked significant online backlash. The initiative aims to protect multiplayer games from shutdown, but he expressed concerns regarding its feasibility, stating that its demands could limit the future design of online games.

In a recent tweet, he added, “My main issue with this initiative is that it is broad in approach, requesting all games stay in a ‘Functional Playable State.’ This is not feasible for all games and could restrict developers.” You can read more about his opinions here.

Threats and Online Impact

According to reports, following these remarks, he was swatted on Tuesday and claimed he and his moderation team have received tens of thousands of death threats. He remarked, “I hope that your initiative gets everything that you asked for, but nothing you wanted.”

The popularity of the Stop Killing Games petition has surged, collecting over 1,175,179 signatures, which might have been fueled by this recent drama surrounding Pirate Software.
