Experts Warn of Serious Delays in Nintendo Switch 2 Availability

Analysts suggest that consumers seeking the Nintendo Switch 2 may face availability issues until Spring 2026.

According to a prominent Japanese news outlet, availability of the Nintendo Switch 2 consoles might be severely limited until several months into Spring 2026. This insight comes from two financial analysts who note rising global demand, caused by the console’s recent release.

When the Nintendo Switch 2 debuted on June 5, 2025, its reception suggested it could break sales records within the gaming industry. Historical data indicates the PlayStation 2 is the best-selling console with over 160 million units, followed closely by the Nintendo DS with over 154 million units sold.

The article highlights statements from Nikkei Asia, revealing that scarcity in Japan led retailers to offer the consoles on a first-come, first-served basis. Furthermore, Nintendo’s online store is utilizing lotteries to allocate the limited supply to eager customers.

Amid these supply challenges, President Shuntaro Furukawa has apologized for the shortages, attributing the situation partly to semiconductor deficiencies affecting production. Projections now indicate that the Switch 2 may remain hard to find until Spring 2026.

The shortage prediction is corroborated by sales expectations from analysts Hideki Yasuda and Zhai Yijia, who report that 6 million units were expected to be sold worldwide by the end of June 2025. Conservative estimates suggest sales could reach 20 million by fiscal year’s close. However, there’s cautious speculation about potential price hikes for the Switch 2 due to changing market conditions.
