Capcom Threatens Legal Proceedings Over Harassment Linked to Monster Hunter Wilds

Capcom has issued a warning of possible legal measures against players for harassment directed at its employees regarding the game Monster Hunter Wilds.

A wave of backlash against Monster Hunter Wilds has led Capcom to consider legal actions against certain players. The developer has specifically aimed its warning at what it deems “customer harassment.”

On June 28, the game celebrated its four-month anniversary, having seen a successful launch with over 10 million copies sold by March 2025. Despite this, the title has encountered persistent criticism regarding performance issues, limited endgame content, and other factors deemed unsatisfactory by some players. This dissatisfaction has driven a segment of the player base to older game titles, while others engaged in vocal online criticism.

On July 4, Capcom publicly denounced harassment aimed at its employees in a statement, emphasizing that while feedback from fans is essential, some criticisms have escalated beyond acceptable limits, involving direct harassment of staff. Faced with this situation, the company is prepared to initiate legal action against what they classify as disruptive behavior.

Capcom Draws a Line as Developer Harassment Grows

The announcement follows a noted increase in threats and personal attacks against Capcom employees via social media and customer support channels. The company’s concern for employee well-being has motivated this firm stance against harassment, as such actions could undermine the workplace environment for all staff.

Capcom May Refuse Service to Rude Customers

Capcom’s response to harassment might not always involve legal action; in some cases, the company may simply refuse service to especially rude customers. They have also highlighted unreasonable demands for punishment directed at their employees and executives as another problematic form of harassment.

The company structured its anti-harassment guidelines influenced by the “Customer Harassment Countermeasures Company Manual” from Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare. This initiative follows the steps taken by Square Enix in establishing a policy against customer harassment to combat similar issues faced within their community.
