Nexus Mods Founder Responds to Age Verification Criticism: 'The Law Must Be Followed'

The founder of Nexus Mods addresses user backlash against new age verification requirements for adult content, emphasizing compliance with laws.

Last week, Nexus Mods announced a new age verification process for users in the UK and EU accessing adult content. This measure, aiming to comply with recent legal guidelines such as the UK’s Online Safety Act and the EU’s Digital Services Act, will require users to verify their age before accessing content deemed adult.

“Nexus Mods is not an underground site operating in the shadows,” said Dark0ne, the founder. He emphasized, “It’s a legitimate business that must adhere to the laws of the countries in which it operates.”

This policy follows his recent departure after 24 years, during which he noted the toll of managing the expansive modding platform was significant. Users have expressed frustration, mistakenly blaming the new owners for the alterations to content access. The reality, Dark0ne clarified, is that these changes were required by law and necessary for the platform’s ongoing operation.

Dark0ne added, “Nexus Mods is committed to maintaining its service while adhering to these new requirements. We believe we can balance user safety with accessibility as the implementation occurs.” Overall, the changes have ignited discussions about the future of user privacy and content access within the gaming community.
