Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are vital to our portable devices, appearing in everything from smartwatches to laptops. Though issues are rare, any malfunction requiring replacement should be addressed quickly. This prompted Anker to issue a global voluntary recall for specific batches of five of its power bank models:
- PowerCore 10000—Model A1263 (US only)
- Power Bank (10K, 22.5W)—Model A1257
- Power Bank (20,000mAh, 22.5W, Built-In USB-C Cable)—Model A1647
- MagGo Power Bank (10,000mAh, 7.5W)—Model A1652
- Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W, Built-In USB-C and Lightning Cable)—Model A1681
- Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W, Built-In USB-C Cable)—Model A1689
While the recall is limited to certain production runs of these models, it’s crucial to check the serial numbers and follow Anker’s recall procedures. Proper disposal of defective power banks is also essential, as they can pose fire hazards. If affected, Anker will replace the power bank or offer a gift card for their store. Users are advised to take this recall seriously to avoid potential dangers from overheating batteries.
