The Minecraft-inspired RPG, Hytale, has been officially canceled by Riot Games, which acquired Hypixel Studios. Nevertheless, there is potential for its revival. Simon Collins-Laflamme, co-founder of Hypixel Studios, has articulated his desire to resurrect the project, even offering to contribute $25 million of his own funds for its completion.
Originally unveiled in 2018, Hytale was long anticipated with a scheduled release for 2021. However, numerous delays ensued, leading to dwindled updates and minimal published content following its trailer. Ultimately, Riot made the bold decision to cancel the project and shut down the studio. Following this, several developers expressed dissatisfaction regarding the management of the studio’s operations during these tumultuous times.
Despite his initial hesitations about the game’s current state and required resources to finish it, Collins-Laflamme’s perspective has started to shift. He indicated his willingness to seriously consider the acquisition and potentially reconnect with Riot for discussions on reviving Hytale, while tempering expectations due to the complex nature of resurrecting canceled projects like these.
