Warner Bros. Confirms Final Season for Multiversus; Offline Play Will Continue
Warner Bros. Games has announced that the upcoming fifth season will be the last for the game Multiversus, although players can still enjoy offline play afterward.
Multiversus, the WB Games platform brawler that merges characters from various franchises, is nearing its conclusion. WB Games announced today that the game’s fifth season, set to kick off on February 4, will be the final update. After May 30, the game will be offline and removed from digital stores, but players can still partake in offline gameplay.
“It’s been an incredible ride, MVPs. Thank you for all the support. For more details, please visit our blog post here and FAQ here.”
In a recent blog post, WB Games shared that new characters Aquaman and Lola Bunny will be available through battle pass and login rewards. However, from this day forward, real-money transactions will cease.
To retain any purchased or earned items for offline use after May 30, players must log into the game at least once during the final season. This will create a local save file tied to the player’s respective gaming account, ensuring access to all content offline in the future.
The reasoning behind the game’s shutdown is vague, but it has been hinted at since November when Warner Bros. Discovery’s CFO, Gunnar Wiedenfels, indicated that the game was a major factor in a $100 million financial setback for the company. This came on top of a $200 million loss already recorded on another project.
Warner Bros. is reportedly shifting its focus toward its core franchises including DC properties (particularly Batman), Hogwarts Legacy, Mortal Kombat, and Game of Thrones.
