Spytihněv, the mind behind the acclaimed 2023 boomer shooter HROT, has finally revealed his next creation: Brno Transit. This upcoming horror game is set in a surreal subway, specifically the transit system of Brno, a significant city in the southeast of Czechia that surprisingly does not have a subway in real life. Instead, it only gained a single underground rail line in 2022.
Brno Transit follows in the footsteps of the indie trend that embraces mundane and workplace-themed horror games, much like Five Nights, Threshold, and Iron Lung. However, Spytihněv’s distinct aesthetic combined with a satirical sense of humor makes it stand out—something evident in its first trailer.
Accompanied by an electrifying, synth-heavy soundtrack, the game captures both normal and unsettling moments from the subway experience. Expect the familiar sights of everyday travel alongside bizarre occurrences, such as a peculiar goblin figure loitering behind a ticket desk.
The game’s description on Steam states, “Brno Transit is a narrative-driven psychological horror game about a trainee metro driver trapped in the dampest subway east of anything that matters. Employee benefits include a crisp uniform, unlimited travel pass, meal vouchers, and an annual trip to Bulgaria—along with an invitation to the Bunker if you prove yourself.”
During a behind-the-scenes discussion, Spytihněv humorously remarked that the game’s mature content is “Not suitable for youth under the age of 30 by decision of the committee.”
With Brno Transit set to launch towards the end of this year, players can wishlist it now on Steam.
