Fans dismayed by the cancellation of Hytale are mobilizing to advocate for a release, amassing nearly 1,600 signatures on a petition. The creators behind the game, publisher Riot Games and developer Hypixel Studios, alongside Hypixel’s founder Simon Collins-Laflamme, have been tagged in the appeal, yet none have publicly responded.
Originally announced in late 2018 by a skilled team of Minecraft modders, Hytale showcases a blocky art style reminiscent of Minecraft while emphasizing role-playing elements over survival mechanics, and it aimed to provide creative tools for players to generate custom content.
However, fans faced disappointment as Hypixel recently declared the game’s cancellation along with the dismantling of its development studio. Following this announcement, a petition was initiated on Change.org appealing for any playable version of the canceled game to be made available, currently collecting 1,582 signatures without any replies from the creators.
The abrupt end to Hytale’s development has sparked numerous reactions among prospective players as they convey their sentiments through the petition platform. Some fans, who had been eagerly following the game’s progress, expressed feelings of inspiration and determination prior to its cancellation, only to be left disheartened. Another fan, a content creator, shared more sorrow over the loss of the game’s community than the game itself. Despite the petition’s momentum, it is doubtful that the official development will resume. NoxyD recently described game development as “brutally hard,” emphasizing the lengthy process and the reality that the game was far from meeting the team’s ambitious standards.
