Randy Pitchford's Comments on Borderlands 4 Discounts Spark Fan Outrage

Gearbox CEO's remarks regarding discounts on Borderlands 4 have left long-time fans frustrated, reigniting concerns over the game's pricing and discounting strategy.

The CEO of Gearbox, Randy Pitchford, has found himself in hot water again, this time for comments that many perceive as rude regarding potential discounts for Borderlands 4.

Borderlands 4, set to be one of the major releases of 2025, is already receiving mixed reactions based on early evaluations. Recently, Pitchford addressed some fan concerns over the game possibly having an $80 price tag and stated that true fans would “find a way to make it happen” regardless of the cost. Such remarks led to significant backlash, and rightly so, which eventually coaxed an apology from him. Thankfully, Gearbox later confirmed a price of $70, alleviating fears of an excessive price point.

Like most AAA games, the types of discounts after Borderlands 4’s release will greatly depend on its commercial and critical success. If it launches with subpar reviews, discounts might come swiftly; however, if it is well-received, fans may have to wait longer. He noted that he doesn’t control the pricing and that he is only speculating on the future of the game.

On social media, Pitchford further stirred the pot by referencing a substantial discount for Borderlands 3, indicating it might take much longer for Borderlands 4 to enter similar deep sale events or subscription services like Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus. This concept has left many fans feeling neglected and more frustrated than ever.

Borderlands 4 is scheduled for release on September 12, 2025, and will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version expected later.
