The FTC has rolled out another batch of refunds to Fortnite players as a follow-up to the $245 million settlement reached earlier with Epic Games. This initiative addresses the accusations that the company employed deceptive practices that led to unwanted purchases by consumers. In December 2024, a previous wave of refunds amounting to $126 million was distributed to over 629,344 players who filed claims for compensation.
This second round of refunds was announced by the FTC on June 25 and June 26, totaling approximately $126 million. With this, the total disbursed to players stands at $198 million, with remaining funds of about $47 million.
Eligible players are encouraged to apply before the July 9 deadline on ftc.gov/fortnite to secure their compensation. The original claim against Epic Games highlighted violations of consumer protection laws, particularly regarding confusing button layouts that led to unintended purchases. Players must note that those claiming through PayPal must accept payments within 30 days, while checks should be cashed within 90 days. This initiative is crucial in improving user protection and minimizing erroneous purchasing behaviors, as outlined in the settlement terms.
