Ex-Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger Discusses Departure and Future of Computing
Former Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger shares insights on his unexpected exit and envisions a future where traditional, AI, and quantum computing coexist.
In a recent interview, Pat Gelsinger, the former CEO of Intel, opened up about his sudden departure from the company, stating, “The decision to step down from Intel was an extremely difficult one. I wanted to finish what I started, but as you know, I was not given the opportunity.”
Gelsinger shared his vision for the future of computing, suggesting a coexistence of conventional, AI, and quantum machines, which he refers to as a ’trinity’. He believes that each computing type will leverage unique algorithms suitable for its architecture.
He emphasized the importance of improving efficiency in AI applications, noting that while GPUs are crucial for training AI models, they might not be the best fit for inference tasks. As he transitions into his current role at Playground Global, a venture capital firm focused on semiconductor investments, he aims to identify new opportunities that can challenge traditional computing paradigms.
Following his comments, there’s significant anticipation regarding Intel’s upcoming Panther Lake CPUs and their performance, with Gelsinger having previously stated he would bet the company on its success.
