Final Fantasy 14 Finally Allows Hrothgar and Viera to Wear Hats

The long-awaited update for Final Fantasy 14 will let players of the Hrothgar and Viera races wear hats, a feature originally promised six years ago.

When it comes to MMOs, certain races often miss out on stylish gear due to their unique designs. This has been the case for Hrothgar and Viera in Final Fantasy 14. As of June 23, 2025, the upcoming Patch 7.3 will finally allow these races to wear hats.

Historical Context

The Shadowbringers expansion in 2019 introduced both Hrothgar and Viera but locked them out of most headgear options. Director Naoki Yoshida had promised gradual updates to correct this issue, yet it took nearly six years for a significant update to arrive.

Upcoming Changes

The new patch will feature a variety of hats compatible with these races. However, according to Yoshida, some metal items like helmets will still need further updates. As a player who switched to Viera, the addition of hats is a long-awaited change. Gear will include job-specific hats, revealing a substantial commitment to improving customization.

Conclusion

While this update is a positive step, many players wonder why it took so long for such a basic feature in a game with a diverse range of races. Despite the frustrations, the community is excited about the forthcoming options.
