All About the Delay in Path of Exile's New Expansion

Fans react strongly to the announcement of a postponed expansion for the popular game Path of Exile.

Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has shared a new update video featuring Jonathan Rogers, the director of Path of Exile 2, bringing disappointing news for fans of the original game. In light of this update, many players are expressing their frustrations online.

GGG launched the original Path of Exile in 2013, with a commitment to consistently release updates. They had assured players that both games would continue to receive support after the launch of Path of Exile 2. However, Rogers admitted that fulfilling this promise has been more challenging than anticipated, stating, “We do intend to keep that promise, but it’s certainly been a lot harder to deliver on it than what we expected.”

The complexities arose particularly after the July 2024 expansion, Settlers of Kalguur. Rogers explained that while an update was initially planned for late October before Path of Exile 2’s early access release, it was postponed due to operational difficulties in managing both titles at once.

“But we just didn’t think we could do it,” Rogers stated, emphasizing the difficult circumstances surrounding the PoE2 launch. Ultimately, the focus needed to shift towards addressing issues with PoE2, which has had its share of significant bugs and balance challenges.

With GGG’s management deciding that stabilizing PoE2 was a priority over developing PoE’s third expansion, Rogers conveyed his regret over the situation, stating, “I just can’t promise a date right now… you guys do deserve better than this, and we will get 3.26 out as fast as we can.” He concluded by thanking the community for their support during these testing times.

This announcement has sparked a flurry of conversations within the community, where players have expressed feelings of abandonment, theorizing about the company’s direction and whether they are indeed neglecting the original title. Despite the turmoil, Rogers reassured that development would resume on PoE3.26 as soon as possible.
