New Magic: The Gathering Set Introduces Science-Fiction Elements and Commander Rules Updates

Magic: The Gathering's upcoming set, Edge of Eternities, features a unique blend of science fiction and fantasy, including spacecraft and new rules for gameplay.

The upcoming set Edge of Eternities is a significant addition to the Magic: The Gathering universe. This expansion embraces a science-fantasy theme, featuring elements such as spacecraft, jellyfish aliens, and faster-than-light travel known as “weftwalking.”

Unlike past expansions, spacecraft will be a unique card type, introducing a new rule called stationing. This mechanic allows players to tap their creatures to add charge counters to the ship. Once enough counters are accumulated, the spacecraft transforms into an artifact creature which can function independently.

Additionally, in the Commander format, legendary vehicles and spacecraft will now be valid Commanders, paving the way for creative deck-building around iconic ships from various franchises, including Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and others.

Edge of Eternities also revives five beloved shocklands, sparking excitement among dedicated players. The full release is set for August 1.
