Massive Decline in Monster Hunter Wilds Player Base on Steam

Monster Hunter Wilds has seen a dramatic drop in its player base, losing approximately 98% of users since launch due to performance issues and a review-bombing campaign.

Monster Hunter Wilds Faces Significant Player Loss

Monster Hunter Wilds has experienced a staggering drop in its user base on Steam, with reports indicating a loss of approximately 98% of players. Early after its release, the game recorded over 1.38 million concurrent players, setting a record for Capcom’s franchise. However, critical performance issues have led to a steady decline in its player count since its launch on February 28, 2025.

Decline in Player Count

The game peaked at 18,468 concurrent users as of late June 2025, indicating a worrying trend where daily concurrent players often fail to exceed 20,000, even during peak times on weekends. Since the launch, Monster Hunter Wilds’s concurrent users have diminished by 98.67% according to SteamDB data.

Valid complaints have arisen from players regarding technical issues, with many stating that performance has not improved with updates and may have even worsened. Coupled with a review-bombing campaign affecting its standings on Steam, players have expressed concerns regarding slow updates and the limited introduction of new content.

Fans anticipate the Title Update 2, set to launch on June 30, could potentially reverse the declining trend, as past updates have briefly revitalized player engagement. Meanwhile, despite the turmoil on Steam, the game retains favorable reviews on console platforms, highlighting a disparity in user experience across different systems.
