Overwatch 2 Season 17 to Introduce Major Map Changes
In Season 17, Overwatch 2 will see significant reworks on Flashpoint maps to enhance gameplay and visibility, along with exciting new features.
The developers of Overwatch 2 have recently provided insights about the upcoming Season 17, highlighting substantial modifications to specific Flashpoint maps aimed at streamlining gameplay. Season 17 is not just about new cosmetics and two Mythic items – players can also look forward to a temporary game mode called ‘Hacks and Hijinx,’ which takes place from July 15 to July 28. This mode will feature 6v6 matches on Control mode maps, introducing random modifiers each round to keep players engaged.
Additionally, a new map named Aatlis will be added to the Flashpoint mode, alongside familiar maps like Esperança and Samoa, enhancing the fun and atmosphere of the game. Developers are focused on improving visibility and navigability of the maps, which will contribute to a more satisfying gaming experience, especially during team fights. As Jorge Murillo stated, “When players become trapped in choke points, it detracts from the game’s enjoyment.” The developers hope that these adjustments will not only simplify map navigation but also inspire more thrilling battles during gameplay.
With these enhancements, players will also gain the ability to vote on their preferred maps before matches in both Quick Play and Competitive modes, allowing for a more tailored gaming experience while providing Blizzard useful information regarding player preferences.
