LocalThunk, the solo developer of the hit poker roguelike Balatro, has officially completed every achievement on Steam. Released in early 2024, Balatro has become a leading game in the market, receiving multiple accolades and captivating a large player base daily.
One of the standout games of 2024, Balatro reached over five million sales by January 2025. As stated by LocalThunk, the game initially began as a project to share with friends, but positive feedback prompted further development, making it part of his professional repertoire. This decision proved beneficial as Balatro was nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024 alongside other major titles.
Although more updates for Balatro are being planned, LocalThunk recently announced completing a significant milestone. In a Twitter update, he revealed that he achieved 100% completion on Balatro, securing all Steam achievements, a notable accomplishment shared by only 0.1% of players. LocalThunk progressed through the game as a typical player, refraining from using any exploits. He mentioned that playing the game is part of his daily routine, and this achievement inspires ideas for the upcoming Version 1.1 update.
While details about the 1.1 update remain under wraps, speculation suggests it could introduce major gameplay enhancements. LocalThunk prefers to keep updates secret until the patch is fine-tuned, meaning players may need to wait some time for more information. Since its launch in February 2024, Balatro has undergone several updates, adapting artwork on its cards to include nods to popular titles such as Stardew Valley, Warframe, and Divinity: Original Sin 2.
Despite its massive success and numerous awards, LocalThunk initially never expected the traditional poker-themed game to resonate with audiences. He expressed that launch day felt ‘surreal’ as the game outperformed his sales predictions, generating over $600,000 in revenue within just a few hours, marking a significant achievement in his career.
