1047 Games Announces Layoffs After Splitgate 2 Launch
The developer behind Splitgate 2 has laid off staff just weeks after the game's official release.
1047 Games, the studio that developed Splitgate 2, recently announced job cuts that affected several employees shortly after the game’s official rollout on June 6 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
The company had a busy few weeks with the game’s open beta launch on May 22 followed by its full release. Splitgate 2 experienced a significant increase in player count, tripling its user base compared to its beta days. Despite this promising start, the developer proceeded with layoffs, aligning with a wider trend of job reductions seen across the industry.
In a LinkedIn message, 1047 Games mentioned letting go of “a small group” of employees, stating it aims to allocate resources effectively to enhance the player experience further. Co-founders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian announced they would forgo their salaries during this transitional period. The company is committed to assisting the laid-off personnel in finding new jobs while reinforcing its long-term dedication to Splitgate 2, emphasizing the need to keep collaborating closely with community feedback.
