Electronic Arts has confirmed that despite internal restructuring at BioWare, development on Mass Effect 5 is progressing well. Following underperformance reports regarding Dragon Age: The Veilguard, EA announced a reallocation of many BioWare employees to different teams.
In a statement, BioWare’s General Manager, Gary McKay, conveyed that a core development team is actively working on Mass Effect 5, led by veterans from the original trilogy, such as Mike Gamble, Preston Watamaniuk, Derek Watts, and Parrish Ley. McKay mentioned, “We have worked diligently to match many of our colleagues with other teams at EA that had open roles that were a strong fit.”
He emphasized the company’s commitment to agility in the development process, assuring supporters that BioWare aims to produce unforgettable RPGs. However, discussions surrounding potential layoffs persist, as several veterans, including writers Karin and Trick Weekes, have indicated they are no longer with the studio, raising concerns about the studio’s future.
As BioWare prepares for a new chapter, the completion of Dragon Age: The Veilguard marks a significant milestone. EA’s upcoming financial results and investor conference call may shed more light on the company’s future direction.
