Sega recently disclosed exciting aspects concerning pre-race interactions among characters in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, which features unique exchanges between characters that rarely meet in earlier titles. The new kart racer is set to launch on all major platforms on September 25, introducing Sonic along with his diverse group of friends and foes who will navigate dimensional portals during races.
The Sonic the Hedgehog series has an extensive roster of characters, and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds aims to include many of them. Given the series’ longevity, numerous characters have existing dynamics—Sonic notably has rivalries with figures such as Dr. Eggman and Shadow the Hedgehog. Conversely, some characters have had minimal prior interaction, which will be creatively explored through pre-race dialogue.
In an official statement from the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Twitter account, Sega revealed that the game will feature over 500 character exchanges along with more than 1,000 unique voice lines. This breadth of dialogue will allow for conversations that have never been realized before. A striking example includes an interaction between Zazz of the Deadly Six and Jet the Hawk, where Zazz mistakenly underestimates Jet just prior to their race.
Furthermore, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will incorporate guest characters from outside the Sonic universe as downloadable content (DLC), announced during the recent Summer Game Fest 2025. Confirmed additions include Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga from the Yakuza series, and Joker of Persona 5 fame. Future updates are expected to introduce Steve, Alex, and the Creeper from Minecraft.
These developments promise to make the pre-race dialogues in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds particularly captivating, offering fans a chance to see interactions between their favorite characters and this diverse cast of guests.
