Upcoming Alien Series to Feature Xenomorphs Coming to Earth
A new FX and Hulu series titled 'Alien: Earth' will explore the arrival of xenomorphs on our planet, featuring a notable cast including Timothy Olyphant.
When I was a child in the 1980s, I remember hearing three popular rumors at school:
- Mikey from the Life cereal commercials died after eating Pop Rocks and Coke.
- In the next Friday the 13th movie, Freddy Kruger would confront Jason.
- In the next Alien movie, the aliens would make their way to Earth.
I accepted these rumors without questioning them, assuming they came from a kid named Gavin, who seemed to have inside information about Hollywood. Interestingly, one of these rumors came true: Freddy and Jason did indeed appear together in a film in 2003.
Fortunately, Mikey is fine—he did not burst from candy and soda—but the third rumor is about to see a sort of realization: the aliens from Alien are indeed coming to Earth, though it will be through a television series rather than a feature film.
The show, titled Alien: Earth, is set to debut this summer on FX and Hulu, and while the title feels like a working title, it appears to be sticking. The cast features:
- Sydney Chandler
- Timothy Olyphant
- Alex Lawther
- Essie Davis
- Samuel Blenkin
A teaser for the show has been released. Although it’s brief and primarily portrays the alien’s point of view, it hints that the xenomorph may take on a new form, resembling a flying insect or a wasp trapped in a vehicle.
Strangely enough, this series will serve as a prequel to the original Alien movie from 1979, indicating that xenomorphs arrived on Earth long before Ellen Ripley had her first terrifying encounter with these acid-blooded creatures in space. Perhaps Alien: Earth will shed light on why Ripley’s spaceship, the Nostromo, was dispatched to investigate the mysterious signal from LV-426. Alternatively, maybe this question has already been addressed in one of the numerous Alien-related projects that have followed. Regardless, we do know that the xenomorphs arrived on Earth by infecting and crashing a spaceship, staying true to their invasive nature.
