The Trend of Fashionable Gaming Bags: A Review of the Prêt-à-Portable Collection

Exploring a unique fashion collection that combines high style with utility for gamers.

I’ve never claimed to understand high fashion. Or advertising. Or really much of anything. So you can imagine my confusion when I received a press release for the Prêt-à-Portable capsule collection, which appeared at Paris Fashion Week. This collection includes a tracksuit, parka, jumper, and a handcrafted, XXXXXXL bucket bag that’s big enough to fit an entire gaming setup: PC tower, monitor, mouse, and even cables.

The bag is crafted from high-end Italian leather and serves as an advertisement for a web browser.

This collection is a collaborative effort between fashion designer Hed Mayner, noted for his oversized silhouettes, and Opera GX, Opera’s spinoff gaming browser, distinguished by its red and black aesthetic.

While the effectiveness of fashion collaborations to raise awareness for a web browser is debatable, unveiling a complete desktop gaming setup from a purse certainly attracts attention. Personally, if I witnessed someone doing that, my first thought wouldn’t be about their choice of web browser but rather how they’re keeping their physical therapist employed.

That being said, this collaboration has succeeded in grabbing my attention. Model Tommy Cash, an Estonian rapper and visual artist, is making a commendable effort to promote this unique bag.

If you take the press release’s word for it, the goal was to create a collection that showcases the absurdity of transporting a gaming setup stylishly. While I agree on the absurdity part, it’s hard to imagine anyone looking effortlessly chic while lugging around a complete PC setup.

The other items in this collection come with plenty of extra pockets to store a gamer’s essential items, making it purportedly ideal for both everyday computer use and fancy outings.

I must admit, the Prêt-à-Portable collection seems beyond my budget, as it’s suggested that the PC Purse may retail for up to €2,000. You can sign up to join the waitlist to purchase your own at the Opera GX gear store.
