It’s now easier to believe a previous leak claiming that Prototype 3 is in development. The first two Prototype games were released in 2009 and 2012, respectively, for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, followed by enhanced versions that arrived in 2015 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, the series has since been inactive. While the Prototype 3 title has yet to be officially announced, whispers indicate a revival may be in the works.
The latest rumors surrounding Prototype 3 can be traced back to a Reddit post from April by a user known as Bigbyy, who claimed insider knowledge from an Activision “study group.” Although the post has since been deleted, it accurately foretold aspects of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, sparking speculation about the potential return of Prototype 3.
Additionally, it has been revealed that Black Ops 7 features a co-op campaign, lending more credibility to earlier claims made by Bigbyy regarding Prototype 3, suggesting it could see the return of protagonist Alex Mercer and be set in New York City.
Despite this promising information, it is advisable for fans of the series to remain cautious about any announcements, as nothing is yet confirmed. Moreover, with Microsoft now owning Activision, the Prototype franchise might finally see new life under the Xbox umbrella.
