Dune: Awakening Surges to 142,000 Players on Launch Day

Funcom's new MMO, Dune: Awakening, sees a massive influx of players, even as it just misses the top 100 on Steam.

It’s Dune June, and Funcom’s highly anticipated survival MMO, Dune: Awakening, has officially launched. Initially available for advanced access users on June 5, the broader audience gained entry on June 10. The game reached an impressive peak of 142,050 concurrent players immediately after its full launch, with around 110,000 players still actively exploring the sands of Arrakis at the time of writing.

Despite its strong performance, Dune: Awakening ranks 119 on Steam’s all-time concurrent player chart, just shy of the top 100. While this might seem disappointing, over 142,000 players online signifies significant interest for a game that debuted on a Tuesday. The upcoming weekend could see those numbers rise even higher.

In an earlier preview, I noted how Dune: Awakening stands out as a captivating blend of survival and RPG elements. Notably, even our editor, known for his dislike of survival games, found enjoyment in this title, which adds to the game’s credibility and appeal.

With high player counts and fun gameplay mechanics, it appears that Dune: Awakening has the potential to maintain its momentum, ushering in a new wave of players eager to dive into its universe.
