Nintendo Switch 2 Achieves Unprecedented Sales Milestone

Nintendo's latest console, the Switch 2, has surpassed previous sales records within a short time frame.

Summary

  • The Nintendo Switch 2 has sold over 3.5 million units in just four days, setting a new record.
  • The Switch 2 outperformed the original Switch in this time frame.
  • Sales included all configurations, notably the Mario Kart World bundle.

On June 10, Nintendo announced the launching of the new Switch 2, which has smashed the company record for fastest-selling hardware, achieving over 3.5 million units sold from June 5 to 8. This surge in popularity is attributed to hardware enhancements and the inclusion of popular titles like Mario Kart World in some launch bundles.

The sales launch was preceded by a tumultuous pre-order process designed to combat scalpers and guarantee adequate stock. Although larger than its predecessor, the differences in hardware between the two consoles are more pronounced. The Switch 2, powered by an upgraded Nvidia processor, supports DLSS upscaling technology, enhancing both performance and graphical fidelity for previous titles like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and Super Mario Odyssey via available free updates.

Nintendo’s figures also indicated that all available configurations of the Switch 2 were included in the sales total. The launch has not only set records but also reset expectations for what a Nintendo console can achieve, particularly in its initial days post-launch.
