The Switch 2 has recently launched, yet the modding community is already getting creative with innovations. A new adapter connects to the Switch 2’s MicroSD slot to enable the use of full M.2 NVMe SSDs for expanded storage.
This device hails from NVNT Labs, a modder based in China. They state that the Switch 2’s MicroSD Express slot supports the SD Express 7.1 standard, allowing it to connect directly to NVMe devices.
Features & Advantages
- The adapter utilizes a PCIe Gen3 x1 interface, leveraging the Switch 2’s compatibility with NVMe signaling.
- This setup fosters diverse storage options beyond standard MicroSD, offering a cost-effective alternative especially for larger capacities.
Technical Specs
While only low-voltage, low-power M.2 drives are supported, NVNT warns that potential power-related issues exist. However, they have incorporated basic power filtering to facilitate connections.
The adapter’s development is ongoing, and NVNT is actively testing its PCB layout to ensure reliability.
