I was drawn to the free demo for the dark fantasy RPG, The Fall of Avalon: Tainted Grail. In many ways, it acts as a nostalgic nod to the classic Bethesda titles like Morrowind and Oblivion, leaving an impactful impression right from the start.
The demo begins with the player escaping from a fortress prison, reminiscent of Oblivion’s opening sequence. It immerses players into a world where King Arthur’s legacy lies shattered after his demise, besieged by a chaotic force known as the ‘Wyrdness’. The design merges elements of dark fantasy with bizarre, dreamlike aesthetics, creating a world filled with intricate lore and unexpected challenges.
The mechanics echo traditional RPG elements while offering customizable character builds, allowing players to mix and match character traits according to their playstyle. The demo holds a solid hour of gameplay, providing a tantalizing glimpse into the game’s potential.
If you’re seeking a classic RPG experience, I highly recommend downloading the demo from Steam.
