In many respects, 007 First Light seems like an easy transition for IO Interactive. Agent 47 could be seen as a version of Bond, albeit without the charm, suave demeanor, and witty remarks. But as the studio shared in a recent interview with PC Gamer, the differences between the two characters run deeper than appearances.
Bond and 47 share some common traits—they are both impeccably dressed individuals who make their living by eliminating targets—but that’s where the similarities end. According to IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak, while Agent 47 is perceived as “an empty shell,” James Bond possesses a rich personality that’s vital to his identity, even as a younger character in First Light.
“You need a lot of patience to play Hitman,” says Martin Emborg, the narrative and cinematic director. “But Bond, he can also just walk through the front door. ‘I’m just going to talk to them. I’ll take action right now.’”
Rasmus Poulsen, the art director, emphasized, “If Hitman is a single-minded killer and basically the villain of the story, Bond is the hero. Our focus is more on his journey as a character, and we aim to encapsulate the essence of saving the world.”
With the game slated for release in 2026, fans can now wishlist it on Steam.
