EA Teases Re-release of Iconic Games
EA has hinted at the upcoming re-release of the original The Sims and The Sims 2 to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary. According to a new report, these classic titles are to be made available by the end of the month.
Not Available for Years
The original The Sims, released in 2000, has never been digitally distributed for PC, while The Sims 2, which debuted in 2004, has not seen a digital release since 2014.
Full Content Package Expected
Players can expect both games to feature all original expansion packs. The amount of content available for The Sims 2 is substantial, so some licensed DLCs may not be included.
A Nostalgic Comeback
This move is considered long overdue, as The Sims holds a significant place in gaming history. Currently, the only option to play the original title on PC is through older physical discs.
EA’s recent marketing surrounding the 25th anniversary has unveiled various updates for The Sims 4, along with hinted surprises. One surprise listed is “Nostalgia Now,” leading fans to speculate on its implications.
Official social media from The Sims has shared glimpses into the nostalgic past, including clips showcasing classic features and prompts from The Sims 2.
Legacy of The Sims
Both games are considered milestones in game design, showcasing the passion of their creator, Will Wright. The first iteration faced numerous obstacles during its development, but ultimately defined a new gaming genre centered on life simulation.
Despite being around for over a decade, The Sims 4 continues to receive updates, with anticipation mounting for the next version codenamed Project Rene. Although details remain sparse, some early footage has sparked excitement among fans.
