Jagex Announces Layoffs Amid Operational Restructuring
Jagex has confirmed layoffs as part of its strategy to streamline operations, assuring that game development will not be affected.
After the recent launch of RuneScape: Dragonwilds into early access on Steam, Jagex announced workforce reductions aimed at enhancing their operational framework. The studio clarified that most layoffs would occur in non-development roles, and they won’t influence ongoing game production.
This information emerged through discussions on the RuneScape subreddit, where community members observed a significant number of moderator accounts had vanished. Mod Hooli confirmed the restructuring process which involved the layoffs, stating the focus remains on maintaining game updates and enhancements.
Hooli mentioned, “Our Roadmap won’t change because of these job reductions, and we’ll continue the great path we’ve been on with our content.”
Jagex released a statement reaffirming their commitment to improving player experiences while streamlining operations. A spokesperson noted, “These changes aim to lessen complexity, boost agility, and ensure we are focused on what truly matters—our games and community.”
While the company has not disclosed the precise number of roles affected, it reassured that critical development teams remained intact.
