The ESRB rating for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has recently become available, just a few weeks prior to the expected release of this much-anticipated sequel. Death Stranding 2, designed by Hideo Kojima, will follow protagonists Sam Porter Bridges and Fragile as they work to reconnect the fragmented world with their new enterprise, Drawbridge, where they will also introduce new characters and gameplay mechanics. The ESRB has rated it M for Mature, citing reasons such as Blood and Gore, Partial Nudity, Strong Language, and Violence.

The game is set to launch on PlayStation 5 on June 26, 2025, allowing time for more announcements before the premiere. Hideo Kojima will also attend the upcoming Summer Game Fest later this month, along with a special Death Stranding 2 event scheduled for June 8, where there will be live game demonstrations.

Death Stranding 2 Gets M Rating Ahead of Release

The ESRB extended rating summary describes various combat scenarios against human enemies, robots, and manifestations termed ghostly apparitions—likely referring to the Beached Things (BTs) from the first game. Players will wield melee weapons along with firearms and can employ stealth tactics to eliminate foes. Non-combat violence includes scenes involving grievous bodily harm and extreme actions.

Previously, Death Stranding and its Director’s Cut received similar ratings, raising expectations for higher intensity in its sequel. Moreover, a live-action movie based on Death Stranding is underway by A24, alongside the confirmation of an anime adaptation.

Fans are now anticipating what further details will unfold as the launch dates approach.
