Final Fantasy 14’s producer, Naoki Yoshida, recently condemned the use of a mod that exposes private player data, emphasizing the necessity for its removal and even alluding to potential legal actions.
First disclosed by Massively OP, Yoshida addressed concerns regarding a plugin known as PlayerScope, criticized for infringing on player privacy. He stated, “We have confirmed that there exist third-party tools that are being used to check FF14 character information that is not displayed during normal gameplay.” (Translation: We have confirmed that third-party tools exist that check FF14 character information not normally visible during gameplay.)
Yoshida indicated that the Square Enix Development and Operations teams are assessing responses, including the option to request the mod’s deletion or to pursue legal avenues against its developers. He clarified that despite these concerns, sensitive player information such as address and payment details remain secure: “It is not possible to access this information using these third-party tools.” (Translation: It is not possible to access this information using these third-party tools.)
The situation has sparked discussions in the community, with comments from users highlighting the tool’s privacy violations. The mod’s fundamental function of displaying account numbers raises serious concerns about stalking among players.
Yoshida’s communication ends with a warning that reliance on third-party tools violates FF14’s terms of service, asserting Square’s commitment to combating such activities.
