The director of Elden Ring Nightreign, Junya Ishizaki, emphasizes that the game’s design is tailored for teams of three players. In a recent interview, Ishizaki shared that while the game is optimized for groups of three, it does support solo play without issues. He acknowledged that the experience for duo teams has not been prioritized during development, stating, “We kind of overlooked and neglected the duos aspect, but this is something that we are looking at and considering for post-launch support as well.”
Ishizaki explained that the multiplayer aspect aims for a fun core experience with three players but mentioned, “It doesn’t collapse if it’s a solo player as well.” The game will also adjust enemy aggressiveness dynamically depending on the number of players, ensuring that solo players don’t encounter overwhelming challenges. This design choice aims to preserve the intense experience associated with the single-player games from FromSoftware.
This approach reflects the balance that the studio wants to maintain from their previous titles, focusing on making the gameplay engaging without diminishing the solitary experience that fans have come to appreciate. Overall, Ishizaki believes that transitioning from traditional multiplayer dynamics to a more seamless approach in Nightreign will enrich gameplay for all players involved.
