Surprising Turnaround: Campfire Cabal, Initially Set for Closure, Emerges with New RPG Project
Campfire Cabal has unexpectedly continued operation and is embarking on a new RPG despite initial plans for closure.
Campfire Cabal, a studio initially slated for closure following the major fallout of the Embracer Group, has revealed it “was never shut down” and is actively working on a new title in the Expeditions series of historical RPGs.
“If you follow the insider news, you are aware that it’s been a rough couple of years in the game industry,” stated the studio in a recent communication.
The studio was founded under the THQ Nordic label in September 2022 with a focus on creating high-quality, narrative-driven RPGs. After facing a tumultuous year in which significant investments fell through, many studios—including Campfire Cabal—were believed to be shuttered. However, it turns out that a compact team continued their projects after receiving a recent green light to ramp back into full production.
“Though we did have to say goodbye to many of our colleagues, the studio survived and a compact team continued the project we had started in 2022,” they explained joyously, expressing gratitude towards those who advocated for the studio’s survival in challenging times.
While specifics on the new RPG remain scarce, it has been confirmed that it will explore new historical periods and locations, expanding the Expeditions universe.
