Former Infinity Ward Developer Critiques Call of Duty's Direction, Compares It to The Simpsons
A veteran of the Call of Duty franchise reflects on its evolution, suggesting the series has run out of fresh ideas.
In a recent interview with Tulsa’s News 9 network, Chance Glasco, an animator who helped create the Call of Duty franchise at Infinity Ward, candidly expressed his thoughts on the series’ trajectory over the years. He mentioned:
“It’s almost like The Simpsons; it’s been around so long that it feels like they’ve run out of ideas at times. It kind of wandered into left field.”
His words resonate with many gamers who feel that while the franchise has made strides in innovation, it sometimes fails to break new ground, relying on familiar tropes.
In reflecting on the gameplay experience, Glasco shared, “I still enjoy playing Warzone,” but he pointed out that he tends to shy away from the traditional multiplayer mode, which he feels hasn’t evolved significantly since his departure from the project. This sentiment echoes a growing concern among players about the lack of variety in game modes despite numerous annual releases.
With Glasco stating the importance of multiplayer gaming during the series’ rise, he emphasizes that the old charm coupled with modern settings sparked excitement in the gaming community. Although the franchise remains hugely popular, he admits that distinguishing one title from another has become increasingly challenging.
