Samsung Unveils Mind-Blowing OLED Panels for VR with Incredible Specs
Samsung reveals new OLED panels boasting 5,000 pixels per inch and capable of 15,000 nits, designed for VR headsets.
Forget about your mediocre 140 DPI, 1,000 nits, 4K OLED monitors; Samsung has introduced a groundbreaking OLED panel featuring 5,000 pixels per inch that can reach 15,000 nits while exceeding 8K resolution—and it measures just 1.4 inches across.
This incredible panel is designed specifically for VR headsets, accommodating its small size. Samsung claims the screen can operate at up to 120 Hz and achieve 99% of the DCI-P3 color gamut.
These levels of brightness will greatly enhance the experience of outdoor realism in VR. The resolution above 8K aims to mitigate the screen door effect, making pixel grids indistinguishable, which will improve overall realism.
Samsung is also developing a 20,000 nit version, but it will only offer 4,200 DPI.
The use of ultra-bright panels is critical for creating an immersive outdoor visual experience. The new technology enables a near-daylight-like quality while making such high brightness panels compact enough for consumer use.
Historically, there have been prototypes of VR technologies capable of 20,000 nits, but they were impractical. Samsung’s new panels now take that concept and make it feasible for everyday use in VR headsets.
