Iron Galaxy Clarifies Absence of Career Mode in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4

Iron Galaxy's Mike Rossi explains the decision behind not including the beloved career mode in the upcoming Tony Hawk's Pro Skater remaster.

Goodbye to Career Mode

The recent announcement about the absence of the career mode in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 sparked disappointment among fans. Instead of this nostalgic feature from the original fourth game, players will engage with timed challenges reminiscent of earlier titles.

In a Game Informer interview, Mike Rossi, the design director of Iron Galaxy, shared insights explaining their design choices. He stated:

“We looked at 3, and that was obviously another very highly regarded title in the franchise. So then it was ‘Let’s look at 4. It’s quite different, but what at its essence is it?’ Our goal here is to make the ultimate package of 3 and 4.”

Rossi acknowledged the weight of their decision, indicating that the omission might upset players who loved the original career mode but ultimately believed it served the remastered games better to lean toward the structure of the earlier edition.

While the career mode is gone, the game allows players to extend their timer for challenges, mitigating the constraints posed by the original two-minute format. Feedback indicated players wanted more flexibility, permitting a maximum timer extension of up to 60 minutes.

The new challenge-based approach still allows the essence of the original gameplay to shine through, presenting a chance for gamers to showcase their skills in innovative ways.
