In the upcoming game Elden Ring: Nightreign, players will experience an innovative method of storytelling through playable memories of their characters. As revealed by director Junya Ishizaki, this co-op roguelike will allow players to engage with their character’s personal histories through interactive gameplay.
“Nightreign shares essentially the base setting and the world of Elden Ring, but it’s played out on a different stage,” Ishizaki explains. He elaborates that the game’s narrative revolves around a calamity referred to as the Night Lord, which has created a backdrop for new adventures.
Players can choose from among eight classes, each linked to a backstory explored through the Remembrances mechanic. Useful items can be gathered in regular runs that contribute to enhancing the characters’ histories.
This new installment promises to maintain FromSoftware’s renowned difficulty while providing a fresh perspective on gameplay mechanics. Players will aim to defeat the Night Lord and his minions while uncovering rich backstories and lore.
Elden Ring: Nightreign is set to launch on Steam on May 30.
