Doom: The Dark Ages Will Not Feature Multiplayer
The upcoming game Doom: The Dark Ages is set to prioritize a robust single-player campaign over the traditional multiplayer mode. In a recent statement, studio chief Marty Stratton mentioned that the decision was made to focus on creating the most comprehensive Doom experience possible.
“It’s campaign only,” Stratton said, emphasizing their aim to enhance gameplay features designed for single players.
This marks a significant departure from the franchise’s legacy of multiplayer elements, which has been a staple since the original Doom game launched.
Multiplayer modes once defined the series, including a notable history of LAN parties where players engaged in intense matches across various settings. However, with the availability of numerous multiplayer shooter options today, the studio believes concentrating on a single-player narrative aligns better with players’ current preferences.
Doom: The Dark Ages promises to introduce larger campaigns and innovative gameplay mechanics inspired by fan-favorite elements of past installments. The game is anticipated for release on May 14, 2025.
