Back in December 2022, I praised Dwarf Fortress for its Steam release, calling it a worthy revision of the legendary settlement sim. Still, the absence of Adventure Mode was notable. This popular mode, allowing players to wander through a procedurally generated world in a roguelike manner, is finally here, nearly a year after its beta release.

Adventure Mode is designed to offer a depth of simulation akin to Fortress Mode, enabling you to engage in targeted combat.

The new system allows players to craft their own stories, linking back to their previous endeavors in Fortress Mode. As you navigate these worlds, you may face off against formidable enemies, weaving your narrative into the game’s simulated history.

Adventure Mode does include a tutorial, but newcomers may find it challenging. I recommend utilizing the Dwarf Fortress wiki for guidance.

You can find the Steam version of Dwarf Fortress, which is currently 20% off until January 30, here.

The possibilities in Adventure Mode are nearly limitless, awaiting gamers eager to carve their names in the annals of Dwarf Fortress.
