It’s a common scenario in gaming: a new multiplayer title launches, and its servers struggle under the weight of eager players. As Funcom prepares for the launch of Dune: Awakening, they are addressing concerns about server performance during the initial rush.
“Rest assured, there will be thousands of servers grouped together in hundreds of Worlds available at launch,” Funcom stated.
The Survival MMO will kick off its weekend beta tomorrow with a full launch expected on June 10. Funcom acknowledges the anticipated server load, declaring that they have action plans ready to tackle potential issues.
“We’ve seen several comments expressing concerns about server load and queues, and we are preparing accordingly.”
Despite past experiences with server overloads at launch, the developer remains confident, suggesting they have the tools and team to manage things effectively. However, they admit that complete avoidance of full servers is impossible and warn players that they may encounter wait times if a concurrency cap is hit.
While the planned measures are positive, concerns linger due to a track record of similar game launches faltering, including titles like Helldivers 2 and Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Funcom encourages players to remain patient, promising that their server queue system will streamline access during peak times. Players can look forward to a stress-filled beta weekend before the full launch, which may attract a significantly larger player base.
