Doom: The Dark Ages Set for Release in May 2025 with an Innovative Combat System
In an unexpected announcement during today’s Xbox Developer Direct, id Software has revealed that Doom: The Dark Ages is nearing completion and will be released on May 15, 2025.
A Return to Classical Gameplay
Hugo Martin, the game director, stated, “In Doom: The Dark Ages you will feel like the superweapon in the center of a medieval war against hell.” The game will introduce new characters and reintroduce various familiar allies and formidable foes. Martin aims for this installment to echo the classic feel of the 1990s Doom with a renewed emphasis on dodging and grounded combat.
“In Doom Eternal you felt like a fighter jet. In Doom: The Dark Ages, you’ll be an iron tank: Heavy, strong, but still fast,” he explained, highlighting a combat system where power takes precedence over flashy maneuvers, balancing player movement with enemy projectiles in a way reminiscent of earlier Doom titles.
Adjustable Difficulty Options
Marty Stratton also unveiled a first for the series: an adjustable difficulty system that allows players to tweak various aspects of gameplay to suit their preferences. It enables modifications not just for ease but also for an increased challenge.
The game will introduce features such as a multi-purpose shield, new melee weapons, and the ability to pilot a giant mech or ride a dragon, making for a diverse gameplay experience. As the release date draws near, players are eager to see how these elements will coalesce into the gameplay of Doom: The Dark Ages.
