The past few weeks have brought chaos for fans and collectors of Pokémon TCG. With new releases of Prismatic Evolutions and Blooming Waters, preorders for the upcoming set, Journey Together, ran out in less than an hour on Pokémon’s official website.
Pre-orders for the newly released Prismatic Evolutions are scarce as scalpers disrupt the availability for many collectors.
Prismatic Evolutions focuses on all the eeveelutions, featuring secret art rares with cards such as Umbreon fetching up to $1,950 on the resale market. Demand has surged due to scalpers, draining stock from stores. While many Elite Trainer Boxes are being resold at almost double the price, genuine collectors find limited access to these sets.
Fortunately, to address these issues, The Pokémon Company has announced reprints of the Prismatic Evolutions. As announced on their official X account, they are working to improve supply and ensure availability for fans.
“We’re aware that some fans may experience difficulties purchasing certain Prismatic Evolutions products at launch due to high demand impacting availability. We understand this inconvenience can be disappointing for fans, and we are actively working to print more of the impacted Pokémon TCG products as quickly as possible and at maximum capacity.”
As the market stabilizes, resale prices for Prismatic Evolution products are expected to drop from over £100 to around £70-£80, making waiting for official releases a more viable option for collectors.
In contrast, the Blooming Waters set lacks sufficient reprints, and the chaotic scenes at Pokémon card events have cast a shadow over community experiences, evoking memories of previous scalper rushes.
With the Journey Together set’s preorders also quickly depleting, hopeful collectors look for the Pokémon Company’s continued support to meet demand and avoid further issues with inventory and scalping.
