Denise Gough, the actress who voiced Yennefer in The Witcher 3 and currently portrays Dedra Meero in Andor, expressed her confusion during a recent interview about the forthcoming Witcher 4. When asked about the new game, she confessed, “I don’t know any of this. Like I didn’t know what I was doing; I’d never done a videogame before.”
In an interview with Eurogamer, Gough admitted that she only realized the extent of her involvement in The Witcher 3 after sound engineers recognized her voice on film sets, prompting her to ask, “Who’s Yennefer?”
Ironically, her Andor co-star Ben Mendelsohn seemed to have a better grasp of the game series compared to her. The secrecy surrounding major video game projects often leaves actors unaware of their roles’ context, as dialogue is frequently recorded out of order over extended periods.
Despite this, Gough’s portrayal of Yennefer was lauded as outstanding, leaving fans amused at the thought of her recording significant dialogue without fully understanding it.
As for The Witcher 4, it appears she has not been approached to reprise her role, and with the game still in development, it’s uncertain when casting will commence. Reports suggest the release may not happen until 2027 at the earliest.
