My Surprising Rediscovery of a Hidden Gem in Baldur's Gate 3

Uncovering the true power of Belm in Baldur's Gate 3 after nearly two years of gameplay.

Belm is back, and it’s more powerful than ever in Baldur’s Gate 3.

While exploring the niche BG3Builds subreddit, I stumbled upon surprising insights shared by a fellow gamer, user Arx_724. There, I discovered the scimitar Belm, which is not just a nostalgic nod to Baldur’s Gate 2, but it packs a punch in the same way as its predecessor, contrary to its misleading description.

The original Belm from BG2 is a legendary weapon that grants an extra attack every round. Interestingly, when equipped in the offhand while dual-wielding, it bestows that extra action upon the main-hand weapon as well.

You can find the BG3 version of Belm in Jaheira’s hidden area in the Lower City, serving as a memento from her past adventures.

This iteration of Belm comes with the special ability “Perfectly Balanced Strike,” which reads: “Send Belm snaking out with an adder’s speed, the very exemplar of swiftness embodied in steel.” At first glance, I mistakenly believed it was exclusive to the scimitar, reflecting my misunderstanding of its powerful capability.

You can maximize your damage by pairing offhand Belm with formidable main-hand weapons from BG2, such as the Celestial Fury katana or the Flail of Ages, both of which are available in BG3.

I’m honestly surprised that even after nearly two years, the game still holds secrets waiting to be discovered, and I’m thrilled to uncover the wonders of Belm that have been there all along. My next stop on my journey entails securing this remarkable sword from Jaheira, bypassing the quirky companions in her entourage.
