Steam to Highlight Accessibility Features on Game Store Pages

Steam initiates a new feature to showcase accessibility options for players on game store pages, allowing developers to clearly indicate game support for various needs.

Steam is set to introduce a significant update that will display various accessibility features directly on game store pages. This initiative aims to assist players in determining if a game meets their accessibility needs before purchase.

Currently, many games offer accessibility options, yet potential buyers often lack clear information. Valve is addressing this by implementing a questionnaire for developers, allowing them to specify which accessibility features their games include, such as adjustable text size and narrated menus.

Developers’ Checklist

By filling out this questionnaire, developers can indicate support for:

  • Adjustable Difficulty: Players can modify the game’s difficulty settings.
  • Save Anytime: Players have the flexibility to save their progress at any time.
  • Custom Volume Controls: Enable players to adjust audio levels independently.
  • Narrated Menus: Allow visually impaired players to navigate through audio guidance.

These features will not only improve the visibility of accessibility options but also empower developers to cater better to a diverse gaming audience. Steam plans to implement this change in stages, with new features becoming visible later this year.
