One of the gaming world’s best-kept secrets finally emerged today as Bethesda unveiled and surprise-released the remaster of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. The game is priced at $50, which came as a surprise to some, but it has immediately shot to the top of Steam’s best-sellers list.
Although I won’t dive in myself until later this evening, the reveal seems to suggest that this remastered version is more akin to a remake. The big question lingering among fans is whether this polished new edition retains the quirks of the original 2006 game, which was famously a combination of brilliance and unintended humor.
Co-developed by Bethesda and Virtuos, the game not only comes in a standard edition but also features a deluxe edition that includes an artbook, soundtrack, and various cosmetic items, including unique horse armor.
Noteworthy Remarks
Tom Mustaine from Bethesda stated that “Oblivion Remastered is designed to be more compatible with modern hardware. This is Oblivion in its fullest form.”
Additionally, Alex Murphy from Virtuos remarked, “We’ve utilized almost every major feature from Unreal Engine 5.” This means that while the original was just 4.6 GB, the remaster comes in at around 125 GB. Despite the price, players seem enthusiastic, as evidenced by their purchases: “Todd, take my money,” many have proclaimed.
