Nintendo Solidifies Switch 2 Price at $450 Amid Tariff Issues, Preorders to Begin April 24
Nintendo announces that the Switch 2 will maintain its price of $450 in the US despite recent tariff troubles, with preorders starting later this month.
Nintendo has confirmed that the price for its upcoming Switch 2 console will remain at $450 in the US, despite the recent turmoil caused by tariffs affecting the electronics market. Preorders for the console are set to start on April 24, 2025.
Nintendo’s assurance comes after a previous pause in preorder availability, which was intended to assess the impact of the Trump administration’s tariffs on imported goods. In their announcement, the company expressed gratitude for customer patience and expressed their own excitement for the console’s release on June 5, 2025.
While the console will be priced as initially announced, Nintendo noted that accessories for the Switch 2 may see price hikes due to shifts in market conditions. For instance, the price for a pair of Joy-Con controllers has now been set at $95. However, the cost of games for the Switch 2 will not be altered from previous pricing.
This pricing strategy falls amid ongoing concerns and discussions regarding tariffs on electronics and how they may alter pricing strategies in the gaming landscape. Nintendo’s proactive approach by building a stockpile of consoles in Vietnam could mitigate potential price increases caused by tariffs affecting imports from China, where previous models faced substantial levies.
